BMI Calculator (Body Mass Index)

BMI or Body Mass Index is widely used to evaluate one’s weight as underweight, normal, overweight or obese. BMI is a calculation based on your height and weight and serves as a good guideline for most people to determine if you need to lose weight.  If your BMI calculation falls within the overweight or obese categories then you will want to lose weigh to maintain optimum health and to look and feel your best.

The below chart shows the formula to calculate your personal BMI.

BMI Formula: weight (lb) / [height (in)]2 x 703

Calculate BMI by dividing weight in pounds (lbs) by height in inches (in) squared and multiplying by a conversion factor of 703.

Example: Weight = 150 lbs, Height = 5’5″ (65″)
Calculation: [150 ÷ (65)2] x 703 = 24.96

The below chart outlines BMI ranges for each weight status.  

If your weight falls into overweight or obese, you should lose weight. If your weight falls into the underweight category you should gain some weight. If your weight is normal you may wish to lose a little weight or to simply tone up your muscles to look better.
